'97 Sentra GXE question

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Whats up guys. Like the title states, I have a 97 Sentra. I bought the car as an economic comutter. I have the manual 5 and it is a lot of fun to drive. It is stock aside from system. My instrument cluster is lacking a tach. I have no intrest in adding a "bolt on" tach. I saw this...

My question to the gurus. Will this not only bolt up, but plug up to my exsisting opening/connecters? I know alot of manufacturers have a standard wiring harness.

Any advise would be great. Thanks.

Hey there welcome to the forum, Sorry to rain on your parade but there are a few things that will cause this idea not to work. There is no signal wire to the combination meter from the ECM on your car, and there are only two meter connections your Sentra's and the one in the picture has three. If you have some ingenuity and electrical skills youmay be able to wire something up but its not looking promising. A quick look through the ESM does not show whether you have the availability to tap into ECM terminal #3(tachometer output on models with a tach).Plus as a side note it would technically require you too check the box on your title identifying odometer fraud. Maybe an A pillar gauge cluster may be the thing for you, slightly ricey looking but it would work. Maybe one of the other members here has successfully performed this feat.

Thanks for the reply.

To address the milage fraud side. If I did do the swap I would most deffently keep the original cluster. I would box it and keep it aside until the day I sell the car.

I am pretty handy electrically. If this is possibal I would really like to do it. In my poking around this site I clicked on the sponser links in the right bar. I saw some products the Import Intelligence offers. It would be cool to pimp out that gauge cluster and swap it in. At any rate, I would love to hear more replies.

First comment is that if you change the cluster you go down to your Nissan dealer and they put a sticker on the car with the mileage correction / history...so no problem. ( or you just declare mileage unknown)Second this cluster change has been done and i did it to my 97 GXE.This is not for the faint of heart. There is / was a write up with all the details 99SEL's web site. You need a cluster from a 200SX 1.6 manual....I found mine on car-parts.com with same mileage as my car for $50 from a wrecker about 200 miles from my house..what you do is add the wire from the ECU, remove all the pins from the 3 cluster plugs and re-wire them for the "new" cluster. You also have to add one ground lead, i used a spare wire from the "new" cluster, they just cut the wires to the plugs.BTW This was useful as all the colors were there to aid in the re-wire.If you want to proceed i may be able to find word files on this.

The E-bay add does not say whether this is a 1.6 or 2.0 cluster ?Both work but the red line is different, and i believe other differences.
