my 97 240 when i first start it either in the mornings or after its sat for a bout an hour or so or more, when i hit the gas it seems like if i do it too quickly it will jerk very badly for a second until i let off the gas, but once its passed it usually wont do it anymore, and sometimes when im accelerating i can feel the car kind of "bump" in intervals of a second or 2 if that makes sense, like if im in 3rd gear going20 mph and i hit the gas to accelerate it will accelerate but every second it will i guess jerk but its very very mild and you kind of have to pay attention to notice it, but you can see the speedo stop for a quick sec each time. any ideas, im thinking either ignition or MAF sensor. i appreciate any input. thanks

(edit/update) so i unplugged the maf sensor while it was running an it sputtered and the engine cut off. whats it supposed to do? btw the engine had only been running for about 45 secs when i unplugged it. thanks

I have the same problem on jerk area, like if i'm on a constant speed i will feel it is mild but i do feel it..so i'm stuck there for now till something else happens...

if you have a misfire under a load, like accelerating, it's likely an ignition issue. Possibly a coil starting to go bad. remember it takes more kV (kilo-volts) to ignite an air fuel mixture when combustion chamber pressures are higher, hence why sr20 engines have coil on plug ignition systems.

So bought a new coil same thing no help at all it happens less but still does the same thing at acceleration or at constant speed..only slightly change but that's it..and on other thing when i started in the morning i give it gas and nothing it just backfires and wants to die but doesn't, i have to leave for at least 10 sec..then i can rev it with no hesitation at all freaking weird..bought a new coolant sensor if u advise to get one..
