Hi, first time poster here with a question

97 R50 Pathfinder w/ 198k miles

A knock sensor replacement has turned into a major overhaul...I figured Im down that deep on the block I might as well replace a few things while I'm there. One of the things I figured I'd replace was the upper & lower intake gaskets.

Being unfamiliar with the motor I've never seen metal gaskets, and everything I've read so far says you can clean them up, dash a thin coat of paint on them and re-use them...but I'd already ordered paper gaskets for it before I found this out.

The metal ones are in good shape...no bends, creases etc. However I'd just as well use the paper gaskets since I paid for them already, though I can return them if need.

So the question is...should I re-use the metal gaskets or replace them with the new paper gaskets?

Is there any downside to using the paper gaskets?

Thanks for any advice

I don't know that I'd use paint, but I prefer the metal gaskets.

I like the metal gaskets, with 4-5 coats of copper spray gasket on each side (let dry between coats).
