I have a 97 QX4,

anyways, i dropped my wife to work this morning 900am worked fine, came home parked in the streets, cleaned some snow, then moved it in the drive way after still worked fine

came inside chilled, ate something, then getting ready to go to work 2 hrs later now it wont start?!?!

It like -15 celcius outside which shouldnt be a problem, i tried boosting it still nothing

what happens when i turn the key, everything works, the radio, dash lights so its not a power problem, it just doesnt "turn over" i have almost half tank of gas, i checked the fuses, everything is fine

when i try to start the car i hear a weird buzzing sound from the engine but nothing?

any ideas? could the starter be frozen?

this is the 1st time this ever happend

Make sure the transmission is in park (the key wouldnt come out if it wasnt, so i doubt this is the problem) check all the connections, first at the starter. Follow battery cable from positive battery terminal to starter. Make sure connection isn't loose.

Next, you can lightly tap outside of starter with hammer. Sometimes this will free stuck components inside so car can start.

It's a blessing. I wish I could just be sitting at home with a busted QX4 than here at work.

Nah not really -- I think fueler's advice is sound, I'd go that route first.

God I love 4wd. . how did I make it so far without it? It's to the point where I get angry when the streets are plowed. We got a pretty good dumping over the weekend.

At least you have any snow. The worst weather I see here in my city is rain, and it happens about twice a year (in a bad winter)

Everyone here bishez about the snow, but I love it. . I figured out why. Driving in snow is exactly like driving in slick mud, only it's clean and you don't feel really stupid if you get stuck (you can ***** that the city didn't clean it right). It pretty much turns the entire area into one big off road park.

if that dosent work, possibly bad alternator? I agree KoukiS14. Since I got my finder I think winter is now my favorite season.

Your starter has most likely gone bad.

I had the same problem happen to me last year about this time. My QX4 (with a fairly new battery) was running fine. Parked it for about two hours and it wouldn't start. Got it jumped and it ran fine for the rest of the day (drove to work and then drove home). The next day when I went out to start it up, the same thing, seemed like the battery didn't have enough juice to turn the engine over (that buzzing sound) but everything else was good.

Had it towed to Infiniti. Turns out it was a bad negative battery cable. Due to the fact that the battery didn't have a good ground, the juice wasn't flowing like it should so there was plenty of electricity for the accessories which really aren't high drain (low amps) but not enough for the high amps needed to turn the engine over.

Long story short, I second fueler's suggestion of making sure the cables are connected securely.

How old is your battery? The cold weather might have just killed it.

where is the starter on my 97 qx4, i looked everywhere i checked the bottom but the skidplate is blocking my view, as for the battery i changed it to a more powerful one just in oct, , 07. so it 2 months old, but i will recheck the power cables they seem secure, but i would really like to try to tap the starter to see if thats the issue, again where is the darn thing,

it could still be the battery even though the lights radio and everything else still work, the battery has to be at a certain voltage to start the car, it could be something like a fuse too, try knocking the starter like fueler said but batteries tend to behave like that

make sure follow that negative cable all the way and even if its is green and intack it could still be bad, if it is green the cable is disentergrading

p.s. port of spain
