I got the dreaded OBD-II codes P0325 & P0100 on my 97 QX4. Pulled, inspected, and cleaned MAF with MAF spray cleaner. No change. Ordered a new MAF on ebay... backordered 20+ days from Japan. I've read about Maxima MAF swaps for 01+, but not for a 97. I hit the junk yard and found 98 Pathfinder and 98 Quest MAF's.

My 97 QX4 part# 22680-2J200
98 MAF part# 22680-5J000

So I compared the FSM tests / specs for each. The only difference is engine speed at 2500 rpm: (97 QX4) 1.7V - 2.3V vs (98 Pathfinder) 1.5V - 2.1V.

Is this difference in voltage range enough to make it still reject the new MAF? This won't be a permanent fix... just until the right MAF comes in the mail.

Well I installed the 98 MAF and took it for a drive around town. No stuttering and no CEL like it was doing before. Seems to work fine.

Sorry, just saw your post.

The first time it happened, it died when I stopped at an intersection. Put in neutral and it started back up but would rpm surge every 30 seconds or so. Limped it home, let it cool off, and drove it again. Didn't have any problems until it got up to operating temp, then every time I'd stop it would die. CEL popped on. First time there was only P0325 (knock sensor). Did research, went to Radio Shack and bought resistors to bypass the knock sensor, no change, this time P0100 and P0325 appeared. I chose to buy an OEM MAF from eBay for $75 instead of $250+ AutoZone ones, but they were on back order (gotta love ebay sellers who relist without checking inventory), so I went junk yard hopping and found the other for 98+ models (see my first post). Popped it in and no more problems. I finally received and installed the OEM replacement and have been driving with no problems since.
