Does a new radiator for a 97 Q45T need to have an engine oil cooler with it ? I know it needs to have a transmission engine cooler, I think. Please advise. Thanks for any suggestions.

The factory radiators only have ATF coolers, there is no oil cooler built into the radiator on any Q45.

Regarding the heater, does the engine seem to be at operating temperature? Coolant is all the way full? Nissan engines are typically pretty good about bleeding the air out themselves, so usually air doesnt get trapped inside... In the FSM (www.nicoclub.com/FSM), you can look at the HA section and do some of the tests... There is one where the heat should be on full blast, and that will help determine your problem... :)

Is the engine having trouble staying cool in stop-n-go traffic? Check to see if the fan is operating at idle. I'm not sure if yours is electric or belt driven with a fan clutch.

Is the engine taking a long time to warm in the morning? Thermostats fail in the open position so depending where you live (MN?) it may not be warming until you hit steady RPMs on the freeway. Heater coils need hot coolant running through them to work properly

It could be air in the coolant system or a plugged heater core if you've ever put any stop leak additives in.

Get the engine warm and see if you can find a shop that will plug in an OBD-2 consult cable and tell you the coolant temp, a 2 minute check. If it's not running at about 180 degrees or higher the thermostat is probably the culprit.

Good luck.
