So my 97 has 233K on it and I'm thinking that the rear suspension needs an overhaul. I did the front a while back and was pleased with the results. However, the front is relatively simple, struts, strut mounts, tension rods, end links (I didn't replace the lower control arm).

However, the rear!! Looking at the parts diagram that are links, control arms-all kinds of moving parts.

Now I like my car alot but I am also satisfied with less than perfection. For example, I swear my front suspension was original at 210K when I replaced it and it felt very similar to the new parts.

So, my question, I could replace the rear shocks and mounts and be done with it ($300 total). However, some of those rear links, etc are cheap so maybe I should replace some of those also? But how many?

Here's the rear parts list - "front to back" (basically a small control arm) $37-"lower link" $63-"rear to back" (basically a small control arm) $92-"lower control arm" $212

The job goes from a $300 expense (just shocks) to $1200 expense if I replace everything. Would it make any sense to replace the some of the rear components, ie the cheap ones? The car rides GREAT, makes no noises etc. etc.

Thanks!Andy

Just check for excessive play. More age and exposure to the elements than miles.

Unfortunately the boxed in nature makes it difficult to feel play in system. On a lift remove wheel and use a pry bar to deflect all the contact points sequentially..................some arm bushings are in hub.

Unless something moves a millimeter just replace shocks, boots, seats and sway bar bushings and supports.
