Well, more bad news for the old girl... apparently the transmission pan is starting to rust through and is leaking. I have checked on line and the part is not very expensive, but... the nearest Infiniti dealership is over 3 hours away and not only have high prices, but charge a lot for shipping. Anyway my question is this... does the 97 Q45 share the transmission, more precisely the transmission pan, with any nissans? My wifey and her Q pass by a Nissan dealership everyday and it would be great to get one there. Any help would be great!

Good news and bad news...What do you want to hear first?

Good news: 1997-2001 Q45's share the same transmission pan, Plenty of people parting those out.

Bad news: according to http://Infinitipartsusa.com (Infiniti Of Scottsdale AKA Joe) does'nt show any listings for Nissan. There is no other car like the Q45 like there is Nissan Maxima and I30 for instance.

But here is the part number just in case: 3139051X04

Thanks for the quick reply!! I was hoping for better news. I thought maybe the same trans was used in the Pathfinder or 300zx.

I may still call Nissan tomorrow just to see...

Thanks

Well the guy at Nissan agreed (although he did not do any research) and said that for engine and transmission part for a Q45... chances are nil that there will be any parts that are interchangeable!! So, I ordered parts from Infinitipartsusa this morning . I just hope I do not get dinged at the border to bad for duties!!!

I really wouldnt be surprised if something from a TT 300ZX or pathy would fit.. They all use the RE4R03A trans, just slightly different flavors of the same thing..

But even though the FGY33 and G50 have the same specs, the internal filter is different. Nissan changes little things like on the differentials so a drop-in will not always work. Fuel filters are different also, even though they are visually almost indistinguishable.

are they truly different? Or just have a different part number?

I looked into that somewhat when I noticed that the transmissions were the same model. But then I found that some pathfinder transmissions had a different number of bolts for the pan and I wondered about depth of the pan. If the pan was deeper or shallower for the other models then the pick-up may not work properly. Anyhow, I did not want to risk waiting too long getting a big hole in it and loosing the transmission fluid, so I just ordered the proper one!

Thanks again.
