Ok so I bought an ignition coil from infinitipartsusa.com(Scottsdale Infiniti) and was shipped and ignition coil. I removed the old ignition coil and installed the new coil by following Chiltions steps:

PATH: Engine Electrical > Distributorless Ignition System > Removal & Installation > Ignition Coil Module
Ignition Coil Module
1.Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
2.Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3.Remove the engine cover.
4.Remove the air duct and air cleaner assembly.
5.Move the heater hose and its peripheral parts aside (No. & cylinder).
6.Disconnect the harness connector from the ignition coil.
7.Remove the ignition coil.

NOTE: Do not drop or shock the coil.

To install:
1.Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
2.Tighten the coil retaining bolt to 36 inch lbs.

I started the car and now have a service engine light, TCS off light and SLIP light on. I test drove it around the block to see if it would clear and it did not. The car will now not get out of firt gear so it appears. I removed everything again and took off the coil and this time looked at the coils very carefully and found this difference:
New ignition coil is labeled: IBG+ 22448 3H000 HANSHIN MCP-1320 NISSAN T2
Old ignition coil is labeled: IBG+ 22448 6P000 HANSHIN MCP-1300 NISSAN T1

Not sure what the difference in numbers mean, can anyone help??? I put the old coil back in and I am still getting the same 3 lights and the car is not going out of 1st gear... :wtf2:

Oh yeah infinitiparts USA doesn't even list the part number just the descrition, I'm thinking they gave me ignition coil #2. Is there a difference in the coils 1-8? If so how the heck would I have ordered the correct number based on the description from their website??? Call me ignorant or stupid but doesnt make sense to me...

I called infinitipartsusa and they said that 22448-3H000 has replaced 22448-6P000, and that 6P000 is no longer available. They said all the ignition coils are the same. Again this is just a bit confusing because I read that someone replaced coil #1 with #5 because they are the same. If they are all the same why would that have mattered? And again if they are all the same why are the coild marked as Nisssan 1 (1st coil), Nissan 2 (second coil), Nissan 3 (third coil) and so forth? :tisk:

I'm not sure on the 97+, but on the 90-96 the connector on coils 1&2 face toward the firewall instead of forward like the other 6.

Your issues with the lights and car not shifting out of first are probably related to another connector that was distrubed during the swap or a wiring harness that has been damaged because it was brittle and then broke when it was moved... something like that.

You might want to review the factory service manual - available at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ - for more ideas on those ECU codes and what their cause might be.

Yeah I keep thinking that it is the wiring harness. That thing is 13 years old and the connectors are very fragile. :frown: I had to mess with them but not sure how to verify they are good. I will look at FSM and see what I can find. Thank you...

I have a 99q and all the coilpacks are the same. I don't think it is your coil pack that make it jump gear.
I also fixed my stumble/rough idle with a new coilpack.

Thanks all, the issue with the TCS OFF light, SLIP and Service light were caused by the MAF sensor connector being broken. I respliced the cables and whalah! I am going to change the coil again and put the new one on...I will let you all know how it pans out...Thanks again...
