About a year ago i started driving a different car, so i left my 97' Q45 (v8) in my garage. When i recently tried to start it up again it wouldn't start.

The battery had died, so i tried jumping it and the starter is kicking on, and i know the fuel pump works, but the starter 'never reaches' the engine. I can't hear anything from the engine, the rpms don't jump up at all. I've been told this is potentially a problem with my Factory Alarm.

I tried putting the key in the ignition then removing it, getting out and locking the doors for 30 seconds. When i locked the doors the security light on the dash kept blinking(shouldnt it remain solid for 30 seconds?).

Anyways, if any of you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

-Matt.

if you hear the starter spinning at all,it is not the alarm system that is the issue at all- more likely a sticky gummed up starter drive assembly preventing the arm from extending to reach the flywheel to spin the engine- try a new starter and it should solve the problem.

Before you replace the starter try removing the battery and hooking it up to a charger overnight. At 12 years you may be at the end of the 2nd battery's life and need to replace it. Is it near or past its warranty period? The couple of times I've needed a jump start it took a while to get enough juice just to turn the engine over much less start it. If the starter solenoid is still sticking with a fully charged battery a couple of light taps with a hammer may free it up the arm. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the advice, i've got the battery hooked up to a charger right now. It seems the battery i have has month and date markers which are supposed to be scratched off at the date the battery is installed into the car, since i got it used i really have no idea how long it's been in there. I will try this... but i do have another question.

Where is the arm i should try tap with a hammer? I can't seem to find it with any googling.

Does the starter even turn at all when you turn the key? Do you get a clicking sound at all?

My car once or twice a week, won't start. I put the key in, the dash boards light up, I turn it to the on position, and I get nothing. I mean. NOTHING. Usually, takes 2-3 tries at removing the key and putting it back in before it will start. Does that sound like your problem?

Nope. I attempted to charge the battery over night and start it. REVS!! Hooray thats better than it was doing before. But it won't idle. The revs jump to about 500 then die, or if i throw my foot at the gas it jumps up to 3,000 rev's then immediately dies.

Any other advice?

By the way this help is greatly appreciated. I love you all :D
