97 Q45 front Shock replacement

Front Upper mount rubber parts disintegrated, so I'm replacing them.Want to replace the shock while doing this major removal and replacement. Ordered from them Scottsdale Infinity. Upon disassembly, found that the strut housing was filled with oil and that the shock was not like the new replacement shock, which was sealed.

Called parts department at Scottsdale with part number on strut housing after telling them they sent the wrong parts. Dan told me that the oil had to be poured out, and the replacement assembly merely dropped into the empty strut housing. And that Infinity started manufacturing this to replace the OEM shocks.

The FAM for the 97 shows a completely different drawing from what's on the car, so it's no help. (this in itself is a mystery to me.)

Any suggestions?

Front struts have replaceable cartridges. Get the rubber upper strut seats before reassembly as they are usually toast, or on their way.

IOS rocks.

It looks like that the '97 FSM shows the front set up from a 4WD vehicle with 6 lug nuts. Use the FSM for the '98. It's the correct one. The thread below might help you a bit:

Any idea, does the 99 touring ed have replaceable cartridges?
