97 pathfinder starter removal

I have a 97 pathfinder which the starter is going bad on. I tried removing the starter once and after about 3 hours of bloody knuckles and a broken swivel socket the starter is still in my pathfinder. Has anyone had any luck removing one of these? If so, how did you go about doing it?
