I tried out some led bulbs on the brake lights and they work but prevent the cruise control from engaging. The only solution seems to be load resistors for each light. But are they safe despite producing so much heat?

What's the best place to mount? I'm concerned about a fire hazard.

I already have LEDs everywhere else on the vehicle, interior, and exterior, except the fogs. But I have installed led off-roading lights on my bumper in case needed. For the turn signals, I simply changed the relay for led compatible to prevent the hyperflash.

Interesting, this just came up on a BMW forum I'm on the other day. Apparently canbus compatible bulbs are the ticket.

Guess I'll try them out.

I know this vehicle does not have a canbus system though.

I don't think you'll need a hefty ballast on the brake circuit like you'd use to prevent hyperflash on turn signals. The cruise will be a leakage/voltage issue and not current. I'd try something like a 330 ohm 1-watt and see if that does the trick.

Alright, will do. And I install that on both brake light connections correct? Or just one side?

Thanks

No, one spot should be fine. Anyplace from the brake circuit to ground, location won't matter.

Neither do 80's BMWs. But they need to see ground thru the brake lights for CC to work. I'm guessing canbus lights include a resistor. But other than conceptually I have no idea.
