Hey pathy heads, tx for looking...

97 se 175k. starts fine cold, after 30-45mns she wants to die out at stops... Bought used in 2010 w/163k, shortly after had similar symptoms, pulled knock sensor & MAF codes. changed the maf. prob was fixed. 1 1/2 years later its doing the same thing. NO CODES other than knock, however i changed the MAF again, changed the fuel filter cleaned tb and prob still there. Its at the mech and he checked fuel pressure/crank/cam sensors relays etc etc. I see this prob on various forums and with various nissan make/model??? What the hell is going on?? I have a family we rely on this truck and need it running. Any insight/advice would be really appreciated.

tx again
Ryan

Have the spark plugs been replaced previously? What about the distributor and its cap/rotor?

Welcome to NICO, by the way.

Plugs and wires are good, (although I hear ngk are tops I think I will get a set). Also mech says distributor is good and new cap/rotor.
Thanks for reply towncivilian, I have posted on other forums and no replies not even a kiss my @## from moderator! Much appreciated!

Yes, definitely use the OEM specified NGK plugs (BKR5ES-11) if changing spark plugs.

once it dies, is it hard to restart ? any smell or symptoms of over rich ? if so, I remember someone having the same kind of issues and the culprit was the coolant temp sensor. It was reporting the equivalent of -120 (IIRC), and was starting fine when it was cold, but was running horribly when hot. Obviously, the computer was still trying to mix fuel and air based on the fact that the truck was very cold, and therefore the mix was way too rich for a warmed up truck...

If you have an obd2 software and plug, you could monitor this, but if not you will need to diagnose the good old way with a voltmeter. I will try to find you the location and troubleshooting procedure in the fsm...

Well turns that the coolant temp sensor was one of the first things he checked... he cleaned out the iac valve somethn or another and says that might be the culprit?? we shall see later today..
