I was going to change my starter this afternoon, which is also a pain in the ..... Anyway, I was driving the PF up on to ramps and it suddenly died, I thought I just killed it but now it just turns over and won't start. I was able to check the spark on 3 of the plugs and they were all good. I checked fuel pressure from the pump and it seemed fine. What would anyone recommend that I try next?

I had been having some random misfire errors that my mechanic and I were going to fix in the next week or two, we are pretty sure those are related to the timing belt being off just a little bit. As long as I kept the RPM above 1000, I never had any misfires. Not sure if they are related or not.

Does anyone have any tricks to getting the starter out without a lot of cuss words?

This is my first post here on this site...if anyone cares.

I had a '77 Ford 4x4 that i took hunting and drove it up a steep embankment just a little bit and it died all of a sudden and would just crank over without starting, had to coast it down a muddy hill with switch backs and no power kept both feet on the brakes and cranked on the steering wheel...anyways, Come to find out it "flipped the timing chain" basically rounded the gears teeth off. Sounds weird but I think yours is a timing belt issue. like my timing chain, i ended up buying a new block and building a new engine...Just a thought.

Thanks Leo, I just had the timing belt changed so I am hoping that is not the case but I will check it out.

Where did you check fuel pressure from? Also did you check to see if the anti theft system is interfering? If it is the security light will flash or blink after a failed attempt at starting.

You might have already done this but it's worth mentioning; have you checked all of your fuses & relays?

I checked fuel pressure on the Return...side I think. I checked where the alldatadiy told me to. I did check the fuses and I am glad you said something about the security light as my wife noticed it was flashing when she was turning the key for me on the spark test. I tried removing the battery to reset it but it didn't work so I figured it was sort of like my mazda and slowly blinks all the time. Any thoughts on why it might have caused an issue. Assuming that is the problem? I will google it as well.

So I got home from work the other night and tried starting it again, and she started right up. Sputtered a little at the beginning but I am guessing that was from trying to start so many times and failing, probably flooding it along the way. So far it hasn't done it again but I am certainly open to ideas as to why it might have happened.

As for the security light blinking, it blinks whenever the door is open, a soon as I shut it, it stops blinking. So I don't think it was a security system problem.

Thanks
