Does anyone know how to custom make an air intake for a 97 pathfinder? The small tube that goes in the air box is what confuses me... any way around it?

the (maybe 3" diameter) plastic tube that goes in from the bottom? You can pull that thing out and you will already have a semi-intake.... that thing just curves around and sucks up air near the headlight

Well if i was to rip that out, would it increases the roar of the motor at all ? Actually i meant those little tubes about the diameter of a straw that he has going into the air filter.

Those are like the 2 necessary vacuum lines and instead of doing it in a African fashion, I welded them. And no, it wont make your engine louder, and if you haven't bought anything yet I would advise you not to b/c the K&n is a waste of money. The 3.3 will always be too slow. Also the k&n makes your throttle body incredibly dirty, making it so it robs you of horsepower. A mechanic will only charge $20.00 to clean it but in the long run its not worth a penny.

Hell no, my check engine light is not on. that sensor does very little, if anything. Ive left it dangling on my previous cars as well, with no negative effects.

Why - did your check engine light come on?

dont pay a mechanic to wash your K&N. Get the K&N "recharger" filter service kit its like $11 and you can wash your filter several times.

But your right you dont really get power from the intake

I really notice the intake by how quickly the engine opens up.... Last time i was in the mud, i was revving the piss out of the VG33, hitting the fuel cut at the top of the RPM's (so its screaming) with all 4 wheels spinning and flinging rooster tails of mud while the QX4 was barely inching up a steep muddy hill..... i love that feeling.... anyways i notice my engine doesnt hit the high RPMs very easily with the stock intake - instaed it "bogs" down..... or hitting the throttle out of a turn... the improved response and upper end is definitely noticeable, off-road

Youre talking about the smaller sensor down on the intake tube hidden behind the bumper / foglight area? Not the larger MAF sensor by the filter - right? if so, thats weird. is there any way you can read/erase the code with a scanner....

Yeah It does open up the engine better off road, you can hear it and feel it in 4low. The filter can be easily cleaned with an air hose or water hose, but the throttle body, when it gets clogged up, requires disassembling the throttle body and cleaning it out. not too much work but its annoying if you don't know what you're doing.
