Replaced alternator and battery today on new (to me) 97 Maxima SE MT. DH snapped clip off pig tail harness, but its getting a good connection to alt and has not been moved out of garage yet. Replaced battery and it started fine. Replaced battery cables and now the car wont turn over. All fuel systems are a go, drove it home on the 4th and went to start it on the 5th and it was DEAD. Charged Bat and drove to shop, battery was good but alt needed replacement. So.... had full "home" wiring of after market sound system, all wires left in vehicle ect. Removed those. Now it is shorting on the body (I got shocked). PO jumped the Clutch Inhibitor, IDK. Haven't even touched any of the other systems, just electrical. Any ideas? We get full power, a charged frame, and no turn-over.

Kind of a rambling post, and I think I figured out the order things occurred...but if you replaced the battery cables (why did you do that?), I'd start by rechecking the negative battery cable connection to the starter.

The cables were pretty beat up, so we figured we'd replace them. Pulled the new ones and put the old back on. Ended up DH grounded the alt wrong when he replaced it and didn't want to admit it. :) Purrs like a kitten now.

The PO did jack up the battery tray, which is now being held in place by a bungie/cable tie McGyver fix. It doesn't even look like it's the OEM tray, so that's got to go ASAP.

I'm new to the Nissan world. Yes I do ramble :). But for $1000 I won't complain and I plan on doing as much as I can on my own. Looking forward to learning and getting my hands dirty.
