[I also posted this in the engine talk area.]

I am considering buying a Maxima.

I found a '97 GXE, white exterior and beige cloth interior are both clean and in good condition. Recently underwent scheduled 60,000 mile maintenance and has new tires, new brakes, and a new muffler.

1. What is the model number of this engine? How much horsepower should it have in like-new running condition? Is this a fairly fast car? It has a manual transmission.

2. The asking price is $5900. Is this a good price?

Hey what's up...sounds just like my car...except the GXE part.

1. Engine # VQ30DE, from factory with 191 hp, stock manual should run around 15.1 in the 1/4 mile, it can be made faster...just check out a couple of the Mods' rides.

2. A little steep (not by much) on the price depending on mileage. If it has around 120k...try going closer to $5000.

 That is a GREAT price!!!and oh yeah, with a good 60' she could hit a high 14.7- 14.8 bone stock:D

Have it inspected by someone that you trust before making any decisions. If you would like to know some specific areas/problems to look for shoot me an e-mail.

That price for that mileage and trim is a good buy, and having had the 60K service done saves you about $150, even if you were doing the service yourself.

If you do not buy it, make sure that you let the forum know because there is likely to be SOMEONE who is looking for a low-milleage 5 speed.

Isn't the GXE the low-level trim model? SE and GLE are higher trims, right?

What are the major differences in the models?

The guy said he has a contract on it, but he's not sure it will be honored. I'll know tomorrow sometime.

Sorry I have not responded to your e-mail, but I was helping Fezzik put on his y-pipe.
