My '97 Maxima SE has been making a whirring noise for a while... I'm thinking its possibly the 5spd Transmission or the wheel bearings, if it has them in whatever form (haven't looked), but it also makes a cronk noise from the front left suspension when we leave the driveway with the wheel turned, like say I'm backing out and start turning the wheel left to go down the street to my right and when I get to the bottom of the driveway where the tire hits the street and the suspension loads its "CROONNKSS" rather loudly. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Is your steering wheel in the fully locked position when the "cronk" noise is heard?

while driving your car down the road at about 40mph and you can clearly hear the wiring noise. slightly lean the car left and right by doing gradual turns of the wheel to the left then back to the right. pay attention to the noise does it increase when the car is leaning to one side more then the other? you will not really need to leave your lane of travel to do this as the turns will be very slowly done.
