You shouldn't have a problem. The drivetrain is the same, but remember in '96 it went to OBDII. As far as I know that does not affect the transmission and I think the gear ratios are the same.

You could email 95silviase. He just did an auto to manual swap not too long ago. Also 574-240sx (I think that's his s/n, he's from Granger, IN-Nick) has done it personally.

The only reason it affects the transmission, is that the OBDII cars have a crankshaft position sensor mounted on the bellhousing. You need that sensor. Especially if you plan on passing emissions.

Some 95s came with OBDII as well. Dont count them out.

Well I would say try to find a 97 transmission if that's at all possible. Considering that a '97 model year car wasn't that long ago, it may be hard to find a transmission for it. Best of luck though.

I have done the swap personally as well on a 95, IIRC the 95 I had also had the crank position sensor as well. Anyhow, technically its only to detect misfire conditions to tell the ECU which cylinder is misfiring.

95-98 transmissions are interchangeable.
