I just got my Infiniti a few days ago. It's a 1997 j30. Everything was fine until this morning, however. Last night, I decided to see if the remote would work and put a battery in it. I pressed the lock, unlock, alarm and trunk button and it didn't work. So I put the remote in my bedroom drawer and the next morning, I open the door and start the car and go to McDonald's for breakfast. Everything's fine. As I come back to the car, I open the door (the car was unlocked) and the alarm starts going off. It never did this before and I was thinking it had to do with the remote. I get the alarm to go off by locking/unlocking the driver door. But when I try to open the driver door, it won't open even with it unlocked! Luckily, I left the window down and was able to open the driver's door from the inside. So, I go back to my house to get the remote, thinking it has something to do with the security problem. I park in my driveway and when I press the unlock button in my car, it automatically locks back up! I was locked in my car! So, I call the Infiniti dealer and they tell me to try to unlock it from the outside with the key, which I do and the unlock latch stays and I get out from the inside.
I take the Infiniti to the dealer and they say it might be a problem with the rod. I don't understand how that could be because I just unlocked the door from the outside 20min. (not even) before, and it was fine until the alarms went off. The alarm isn't going off now. The other three doors open fine. So, I have two questions:
1) The driver door won't open even if it's unlocked. It wasn't like this until the alarms went off earlier that day.
2) When pressing unlock from the sidepanel the doors automatically lock. Why is this?*
*NOTE: If I unlock the door from the outside with the key, the unlock/lock button works fine until the 4th set of unlock>lock>unlock then when I press unlock it automatically locks up
Is this a security problem? Mechanical? Help!!!
