the car makes a really loud noise when you turn the heat on or the ac, i think its the blower motor but my bf said the blower motor is in the dash and the noise is coming from under the hood. and we need to do the passenger side cv axle, is there anything special i need to do or know? where is the knock sensor on this car?

Welcome to NICO.

As far as the noise is concerned, could you describe it a little more. I understand it is loud, but is it a pop, bang, squeal or some other type of noise?

On the axle, the only thing I recommend is to get a new seal where the axle meets the transmission; be sure to get it from the dealer.

The knock sensor is located dead center of the block under the intake manifold. It can be replaced with an extension, a 'knuckle', and a 10 or 12 mm socket. Removal of the air intake tube may be required if it is stock.

If you have anymore info or questions, feel free to ask.

I recently had to replace my knock sensor in my 1996 maxima and from my understanding its the exact same engine and i have one sitting in my garage that i recently removed from an Infiniti I30 i just had someone that was strong enough with a small hand and had them remove it and it came right off then had them stick the new one right in. As for the noise i really cant help!

Do you have climate control? It sounds as if it might be the A/C clutch or A/C belt tensioner.

It could possibly be the air conditioning condensor. If it comes on when you turn the A/C on, then stops again when you turn A/C off, it's probably the condenser. Worn condensers can make unpleasant noises.

yes it does have climate control, so it would be the clutch. and it started doing the noises this past fall when it started getting cold so the heat was always on so i dont think its the condenser

Turn on the climate control on to 70-75 degrees on ECON, not AUTO. If you hear the noise no matter what, then it's the tensioner, if you don't hear the noise, it is probably the A/C clutch.
