Hey changed my oil today along with the 2 small accessory belts and decided to do a write up for us weekend mechanics and newbie's and I was bored as hell---- feal free to delete if not needed

Well first you start off by going and getting 6 quarts of FULL SYNTHETHIC oil and the proper oil filter. I say 6 because the q45 hold's 5.3 so you will need 5 and 1/2. I decided on Mobil 1 10w30 since it is liked by many on this board, 10w30 because summer is coming I usually use 5w30 and a Fram oil filter because I appreciate their grip for us semi–part time body builders

Then Jack your car up on the Right/driver side and get underneath with a 10mm socket, 14mm socket, a ratchet and oil catch pan.Take your 10mm socket and remove all the screws securing this cover to the Q I think it's like 10 or something

Then throw that cover off to the side and slide your oil catch pan underneath the oil drain screw. Using a 14mm socket break the torque on the screw and slowly loosen by hand so you wont wind up taking a synthetic bath.

Then unscrew your oil cap and lift your dip stick

Now jump back under and look for your oil filter (circled in red) located on the driver side in the front of the block. Thank Nissan for the genius idea of an oil filter drain catch cup thingy (circled in yellow)

Now make sure you drain all the oil out the pan and place the drain screw back in the oil pan and tighten

Move the catch pan underneath the bright orange hose hanging down. Loosen your oil filter slowly of course and watch how cleanly the oil drain's down the orange hose remove old filter (sorry forgot to take pic)

Old filter next to new filterThe Fram is about 1mm shorter and 2mm wider then the old filter

New filter installed (this is a pic from my belt D I Y that I was going to do but it is so simple that I decided not to) unless somebody wants me 2...

Make sure you rub oil around the gasket of the new filter before you installTighten oil filter Tighten under cover Add 5 quarts place on a level surface top off the rest and your good for another 2400(like me) to 3000 miles or 3 months

***I also changed my PCV but that is self explanatory if not I will add it just let me know

I know your right I would of went oem but since my suspension parts from joe are already in transit I figured i'll settle for fram untill the next order of parts next month (trans fluid and filter, oem oil filter, air filter, and some bg44k) were I wont forget.... So Fram for now

here's a quote tooken from http://www.greenmediaonline.co...t.asp "In summary, I think it would be fair to say Baldwin, Kubota, Donaldson and AMSOIL are each in a league of their own with no dispute over their superior quality. There were many just plain good automotive filters that meet OEM specifications, but with no outstanding characteristics. Wix provided the most information on its filters, but still left a lot to be desired. If any machinery is in warranty, be sure to only use the OEM’s filter line, no matter who makes it."

K&N also makes a good oil filter with 1" nut on the end so easy to pull.

K&N oil filters, like their air filters, are marginal. Frams are even worse.

Joe has great prices on M1 filters.

To gain access to the oil filter, I prefer to remove the air intake scoop above the radiator, and then reach down from the top - Only 3 nuts to remove, versus God-knows-how-many under the car. It also gives me a chance to check the condition of the air filter.

I pre-fill the new filter with oil before installing it. If you're fast with your hands, almost no oil leaks out of it while you're spinning it on to the threaded filter nipple.

Thats what I use in my Q. Problem is it can't be found in a store around here. I need to order it from a dealer. Ofcourse stocking up helps - but stocking up oil filter -- sounds kind of stupid.

I assume you do this to keep from having that two or three seconds of low oil pressure on the first restart after the oil change? That little bit of ticking and what seems like an eternity of the low pressure light bothers me too! I actually pull the injector fuse and turn the engine over for a few seconds so it gets everything oiled up without starting the car. Seems to work well!

Nice write up, and I'll third that you can get to the filter MUCH easier from the top.

I'll also third the Amsoil EAO filter, and their synth oil.
