Hey Gang, I went ahead and started the install of the factory inserts on my 97 Q, Not sure if all 97+ Q's are like this....They are not originally inserts but rather an oil filled damper. So the question is could a quality custom shock place revalve these badboys? Well anyhow im gonna hang on to the stock goodies and ask around. If Q45tech or anyone else has insight on this please feel free to chime in.

You sure that your struts didn't just burst? I remember when I finally got around to replacing my front strut inserts on my Z and the left literaly exploded into my mechanics face since the oil had leaked out so bad it just about exploded.

NO the entire front assembly is the OEM shock body. Other wise the insert would not have fit. What i have sitting on my work bench are the inner parts of a shock...no body at all. i had to pour the oil out...about a pint maybe more.

The front suspension design, durablity and non-availability of reasonably $ aftermarket upgrades is probably the biggest pet-peave I have with this car. Seems like they cut a corner from the previous generation.

I agree Doug it is a giant pain in the A**. I dont blame Nissan for this but rather the aftermarket. I have 113k on my car and she rides great...only reason I knew something was up is that the car just gets a wee bit floaty when pushed hard...that and lots of nose dive under hard braking. But anyhow...The low number of Q sales im sure is the reason no one tooled up to make these.

OH PS...The late 90s were pretty dismal years for Nissan/Infiniti...So im sure they cut cost where they could. Im just glad they got a helping hand from Renault and are back on there game:).

Well given the even lower sales of the gen 3 Q's they can probably say goodbye to any aftermarket parts too, wouldn't you think? Has the boat already sailed on Tockiko making blues for our cars????

Those coil overs are starting to sound better and better at 100k miles.
