97 coolant temp issue

I got a 97 altima, 140k auto. stock.

on a cold start i noticed the temp gauge go up as i rev the car. Kinda like a mini RPM gauge and then go back to cold. After 30 mins of driving the car shows that is finally warm, in the midddle.

its cold in chicago right now but that doesn't make any sense. I checked the upper and lower hoses and everything seems to be working fine. The only obvious sign of problem is the temp gauge going up as i rev the car and the needle to show warm.

You guys think its just like a temp sensor or something more?
