I have been having my car for about a year now and had no problems with it. But suddenly my speedometer gauge would start to fail. It would rise and fall between 2-4k. But it wasnt really a priority because i knew my speed in 5th gear. But then my tachometer started doing the same thing. And now my engine temp gauge wont work at all! My fuel gauge is fine. But idk whats goin on!!

HELP PLEASE!!!

Please clarify:

Your Speedo is bouncing between 2k-4k? Or do you mean you tach?

Yes and the temperature sensor. I have been doing some reasearch and i am convinced that the problem is with a fusible link... I just have to find where it is

What makes you think it's a fusible link? I highly doubt it. No fusible link in the circuit at all plus it would effect more than just your gauges if it was a fusible link failing...psst they burn up, they don't intermittantly short out. I will gamble that your gauge cluster is dying or the connections on the back are not tight.

There's a schematic of your system in this link... http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Altima/1997/el.pdf

Well i was thinking back to what have caused this, and about a month before this happened i put a larger mass air flow sensor on. I forgot do disconnect the battery and one of the wires grounded out... and then all guages started to fail one by one..

If it were a fusible link you'd have no power to the cluster because they burn up fast when over-amped. I'd suspect the cluster myself, it's delicate.

Sounds like it's time to start tracing waires back to the fuse box.

Its been a little while. But i got a street bike for a daily driver so now i am going to change the whole wiring harness. I tried tracing wires back and forth. Its really frustrating. Anyways I will be putting my other wiring harness in soon. Just keeping yall up to date..
