i'm trying to buy a 97-98 nissan 240sx with manual transmission. but they're so hard to find. autotrader, for instance, only lists 1 in all of CA. where can find more 240's for sale?

Try recycler.com or even forums like these to find the S14a

Those are actually pretty rare to find, especially in 5 spd...you can also try eBay. Just keep looking and you'll eventually find one.

Welcome to NICO!

yeah, it seems like every damn one around here is an automatic. if you sell your honda though, you could put that cash down on a transmission swap :D just kidding.

It took me about 10 weeks of searching autotrader, automax, carsdirect, cars.com, and yahoo, then about 2 months of giving up, and then..

I saw an S14 outside a KFC one day and saw the owner come out. I complimented him and he started telling me about how long it took for him to look for one.

So, I checked autotrader and saw one in black on Socal, but unfortunately, after calling him once, the guy never responded again.

So, from that day on, I searched every day again for about 5 weeks. I found one the day after it was posted on yahoo ads, a white 98 s14a manual. It doesn't have LSD but with 50k miles and the paint being in extremely good condition, I couldn't pass.

i just tried automax (including its affilitated sites), autodirect, and yahoo and i found nothing. it's going to take me forever, but i'll be worth. vertex body kit, sr20det engine swap (or turbo kit), blow off valve, intake, exhaust. it'll all be worth it. haha.

ah...good question. well, i was always interested in drifting (in large part because of initial D and my close friend). So 2 sundays ago i went to D1 drifiting in Irwindale, and i saw a bunch of 240's, including a lot of the cars that were competing. then my friend told me all the things i could do to it, including the sr20det engine swap. and then i saw pictures of 240's with the vertex body kit. it turned out to be just the car i wanted. i always wanted a nice looking car that was fast, had turbo (so i could get a blow off valve; i love the sound of it), and had a lot of potential. my friend had a mr2. it was turbo and he had a blow off valve. but i never liked the look of it. too dinky looking. and i was never a big fan of rx7's either. but the 240 just looks mean. thus, the answer to your question. by the way, your location is listed as "islands". would that be hawaii?

yup..i live in hawaii. the 240s are great. you'll soon find out it's not just about good looks and having the potential to be FAST, but these cars are SO fun to drive.

see your title, now it says hubcaps :)

not to mention, it's also rear wheel drive. wanted that too. but yea, good to be talking to a hawaiian. my good friend that introduced me to drifiting and told me about the 240's is from hawaii. he's a mr2 enthusiast. and rx7's as well, although he never got to own one. he's had like 6,7 cars back in hawaii. he's a lot more into and knowledgeable about cars than me. maybe you know him. timothy ma. he's heavily involved with the grace bible church in pearlside. he's always telling me that since the island's so small, almost everyone knows each other. either that, or he'll know somebody that does. actually, a lot of my friends now are from hawaii. we're actually going to the hawaii vs. usc game this saturday. i'm more looking forward to going to hawaii though. all my friends are hyping it up for me and telling me how great it is. i've been wanting to go since last year. i know one thing for sure; i'm definitely going to love the food. spam musubi for 99 cents at 7-11. tim told me the first thing i have to try is meat jun. and being korean, local food is definitely my kind of food. L&L is the closest i've had to local food, and it was pretty good. hopefully i'll be there this winter. if not, next summer. definitely looking forward to it.

I had a similar problem when I was looking for my S14. Go ahead and get a clean S14...even if it is automatic. A local company only charges an extra $300 to convert to manual when doing an SR swap. So don't pass up on a great automatic for a lesser manual if you plan to do the swap. The conversion won't be that expensive if you get a front clip, which is what many people do anyway.

It took me just over a month and a half to find my 98 240sx SE. Perfectly stock, no damage, great interior. But i paid dearly for it. 11k$

Only 1k over blue book value, but it was worth it to me.

thanks to all the guys that are replyin and helpin me out. creophus, what's the local company that does that? and also, i'm still a rookie when it comes to 240's, so a few questions? i know LSD is limited slip differential, but what's it for or what does it do? and how do i know if the one i'm gonna purchase has it? and what's a front clip? and finally, not quite understanding the "zenki".

se with abs had the lsd. It keeps one wheel from spinning while the other is planted. lots of folks are looking to mod their non-lsd 240 and drop one in.

OR, if you know some1 who is a lincenced used car dealer, you could find one at a salvage auction, my dad is one(tried to buy an EVO today but it ended up going for 16000, thats how i got mine, it came out to be like 5500 grand total, 240s are really cheap at the auctions, i got my friend a 96 5-speed for only 1200, with the parts and all it would have came out to 3g, but he is doing the s15 conversion. but then again 97-98s are really rare, i mean really.

i kinda forgot to put the address up its, 840 e. garvey ave, monterey park, ca 91755. and im not a car salesman. im just a guy looking for a 96 or 97 240 within a reasonable price range (not $8900). their soo hard to find. i think u should drop the color thing, finding a 97 240 is hard enough but in black is almost impossible! this is the last week im spending on looking for my 240 :-( my parents want to get a car asap and if i can't find this car fast enough, i'll have to let my brother get a civic (BOOO!!) by the way i live in long beach, home to hondas and acuras. i don't want to be like everyone else, that's y i've decided on the 240 or i think its the 's13' (im a newbie too) gonna show those ricers who the boss is. MUHAHAHAHAHAA

there were only 5833 97-98 240s made total. Of those propbably less than 5% were manual (15% max, i dont have the exact numbers), good luck in finding one. If you find one of the *maybe* 300 manual s14a's concider yourself very lucky.

EDIT: my freind has a 98 240sx and it was 10,500 (mint, SE, auto, sunroof, white, 54,000miles)

I might be selling my car in the future.

It is a 97 240SX SE, Silver Moss loaded with everything except VLSD and ABS. It does have the sideskirts, spoiler, and moonroof. 80,000 miles.

Yeah, we paid up the @$$ too...

11k for a white 98 manual.

I'm not sure if those figures above are correct...I read from another source that there were about 2000 98's made and half were manuals.

If my info is incorrect, then I must be really lucky.
