Hello everyone...

i picked up a 1997 240sx for a project... the car has some substantial damage on the body, but the engine and transmission seem to be running fine. a few days after i got it, i noticed that the water pump was pissing water, i replaced the water pump, let the car run on idle to let the water circulate, it was working fine and then all of the sudden the car started missing and shut off. i checked the spark plugs and wire and they were really bad. when i pulled the wires, they broke.. so i had to pull them with a tool, but that is no big deal... but like a moron, i pulled the wires and did not write down the order they go. i checked online but i could not find much informaiton... so, i am asking for someone to tell me which order the spark plug wire go on the distributor.. if you have an image i can refer to.also, any idea why the car would shut down in idle like that after replacing the water pump?

any help is truly appreciated.

thanks in advanced.

if you dont want to dl anything, look on the distributer cap, theres numbers on it. the cyl closest to the front is #1 then 2,3 and 4. just put the longest one where, you guessed it, you need the longest amount of wire to get to it. thats 4. its all on the dist cap where you need to put the corresponding wires.

hey guys... thanks for the information.. i just had the time to check the car today and there are no numbers on the distributor cap to help me out.

i also downloaded the manual for 97 240SX... its awesome.. but i cant find anywhere in the manual to tell me the spark plug wire configuration.

so, if someone can look in their car or if you know which way it goes... thanks to ender_zero, now i know that the cylinder closest to the front is #1, then #2, #3 and #4. so, if you are standing on the drivers side, facing the distributor, you have the cables connecting UP, RIGHT, DOWN and LEFT on the distributor. according to this config, where does 1,2,3 and 4 connect?

thanks for you help again.

I'll take a look tomorrow when it's light outside... I can't believe FSM doesn't have it, you might want to double check

The KA motor firing order is: 1-3-4-2. This is at the distributor cap in a counter clockwise direction.

Remove the distributor dust cover. Now the dist cap should have a #1 on it. If it doesn't, you'll first need to be at Top Dead Center (TDC) for the compression stroke in order to find #1 on the distributor. To find TDC, remove #1 spark plug and disconnect the ignition coil wire. Have someone tap the ignition switch start position to slowly crank the motor while you put you hand or thumb over the spark plug hole. When you feel the compression, stop. Now look down at the timing pointer at the front pulley. It should be pointing to ZERO. If not, manually turn the motor clockwise or counter-clockwise by hand until it's pointing to ZERO. Now determine the #1 plug wire location on the dist cap by removing the cap and see which way the rotor is pointing.
