97 240SX alternator amps
anyone know how many amps the stock alternator puts out on a 97 240...? getting a stereo soon and im hopin i dont need an upgrade... thanks in advance

The stock alternator is good enough for me to drive a alpine mrv-f340 (4 channel amp getting 55w per channel) and an alpine head that sucks power like a perv on Pam Anderson's boobies. Unless you're gonna run two seperate mono JL amps driving some crazy bass, you'll be fine. Might want to get a stiffening cap though. I've got a monster 1.00F cap to help keep pulses out of the power.

That's what sucks, 240's have nothing in the engine electrical upgrade that I could find. Been looking for alternator upgrades for a good 4 months now and "NOTHING". MSD looks like they are making a pretty good universal one with mounts that can be clipped onto different locations but have to wait till MSD has clips that matches our cars.
Try getting an optima yellow top. My buddy's celica who's got basically everything minus a microwave installed in there drives fine. He's also got some crazy car audio stuff, but might want to invest in another battery and take the alternator to a shop that can do the jump up for you. I remember last year there was a guy with a 120amp alternator for the 240 that went for 250 on ebay so I'm sure it can be done. Just gotta find it.
