So i received a recall notice for QX yesterday. It states "The fuel filler tube in your QX4 may have insufficient amount of coating at the lower mounting bracket. If there is insufficient coating, corrosion may occur in geographic areas that regularly use road salt in the winter. This corrosion can result in perforation of the fuel filler tube and cause fuel leakage. If there is fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire can result." Then it goes on to list 23 states (which i'm not going to type out but if you have a question i'll be happy to look at my notification paper for you), but i just wanted to let you guys know that i received this notification and was wondering if anybody else did.

found this on motor trend, seems to be legit
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nissan is recalling 372,250 Infiniti QX4s and Nissan Pathfinders from model years 1997-2001 to replace a faulty fuel filler tube assembly. The problem could result in a fire, especially in areas of the country that use heavy concentrations of road salt in the winter, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The federal agency explained in a posting on its Web site that during the coating process of the fuel filler tube assembly, an insufficient amount of coating may have been applied at the lower mounting bracket.

"This could result in an opening in the coating which can allow water to enter and make contact with the bare metal of the tube," NHTSA said. "If a mixture of snow/water and salt makes contact with the bare metal, corrosion may occur to a degree which results in perforation of the tube. In this case, fuel leakage may occur when filling the tank. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire."

NHTSA said the recall involves vehicles sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Nissan dealers will replace the fuel filler tube assembly with a new one with an improved coating process. The recall is expected to begin on or about November 26. Owners can contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261.

What this means to you: If you live in one of the aforementioned areas and own a 1997-2001 Pathfinder or QX4, better get in touch with your Nissan or Infiniti dealer.
Did it happen to say the build dates that are affected? Because mine is labeled a 02 but was built in 01.

Unfortunately they didn't, it just says "Infiniti has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1997-2001 model year Infiniti QX4 vehicles"

No prob. . I showed up on here to post that I got one too. . I totally forgot about the other thread, and got lucky.

Man I really don't look forward to having to take it in, even if it's free. I live in a podunk town in Indiana that never has, and never will, likely have an Infiniti dealership. My Nissan dealer is an assclown, and I have to drive and wait for it to be finished. I'm sure as hell not renting a car. I wonder if they'll give me a sweet G35c 6MT as a loaner. .

They've only given me G35 sedans when they give me a loaner around here. They said "we don't use coupes as loaners" So i asked for a 6MT sedan then and they said "we don't use manuals as loaners" I said to the guy "well i'm givin you guys my 6MT coupe for the day you should give me one for the day! HA unfortunately my reasoning didn't work

haha yeah. . likely. . if I go to the closer of the two Infiniti dealers in Indy, I will get a Cavalier or Cobalt for sure. They also have a BMW dealership, and a friend had a lemon of a 328ci back in the day. . he wound up driving a Cav more than he ever drove his own car I think. They'd never give him a decent loaner.

I'd take an auto sedan. . I've never driven a G35, but I'm pretty sure I'd like it. But I agree with your reasoning. . haha. . a coworker of mine had it made for awhile. . he took his 325ci in to the local bmw dealer, and came back to work in a 750iL

Yeah Canadian salt is totally different. It's sort of like how we call some types of ham "Canadian bacon". In reality, the "salt" used on Canadian roads is actually what we call "black pepper" down here. It does nothing for the ice, but man is it tasty. I hope this clarifies the confusion.

But umm yeah i would assume it affects you guys too. They gave me a number for the National Consumer Affairs Department, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. (geez that's a mouthful) Here's the [toll free] number 1-800-662-6200 i'm sure they can help you out with that.

Replying to an old topic but I was able to get the recall performed a few months ago. Took about 1.5 hours along with an oil change (for $25 it isnt worth my time--I brought Mobil 1 Extended Performance).
