I think if other Nissan's or Infiniti's cat converter will fit into the 97-01 Q45 we'll able to pull a good amount of horsepower out of it with a simple replacement. I see many hi-flow cat converter for Maxima, Altima, etc... for about $30 on eBay. However the 95-99 Sentra's cat won't fit into a '97 Q. I have tested that so the Sentra is ruled out. Anyone else???

I wouldn't count on your Q turning into a M5 with a new cat, you should look into the Dynomax universal fit cats, they can be modified to fit just about any car. do a google search on Dynomax Catalytic Converter and see what they say, there were a couple of places I found when I was looking for my 300ZX.

The power problems are primarily inside the engine and the oem intake and cats/precats don't offer very much resistance at all.

Base on rpm and displacement the engine is not to far from the mark 74x4.1= 303 HP/303 lb/ft.

The primary problem is cam duration and lift to focus the power lower in the band for smooth drivability at cruise. The exhaust manifolds are more the untuned log type than the tuned runner type of the 90-96. Instead of a 6,000 rpm peak 5,600 was used thus the lower horsepower [reduced by 7.5% vs a 6,000 rpm peak].
