I never see posts on this - am I to believe everyone buys their parts from Joe for the FGY33 exhausts?

$1700 just for the cats?

I didn't think so.

Our cars have 3 exhaust sections. The back pipe with suitcase muffler, then H pipe in the middle, and the two front pipes that come down from the headers. The cats are inline on the two front pipes.

At 194k my system is DONE. If you have bad knock sensors, or bad o2 sensors, fix it sooner rather than later or unburnt fuel will DESTROY your exhaust. Not that I can complain at 194k.....

Here's the exhaust system:

I purchased the mid and rear sections from a junkyard, with all 4 o2 sensors, from a car with 72k on it, for $200. Hard to beat that. The red is what I bought, the blue is what I need (cats and front pipes).

The front sections I can't find! Anywhere! Only a company named Davico (ironically, near my house), seems to make them. I've confirmed with them they have ONLY the passenger side - they do not make a driver's side.

So - who else has done this? Seems the only choice is to buy universal cats and have them welded up.

Any other input before I get this done?

Jack, did they rust out from th e inside in? IS the muffler not SS like on the G50?

The catalytic converters are so expensive because of the precious metals they contain. Typically last the extended lifetime of the care if not mistreated.

Where are the destroyed cash for clunkers when you need parts? Final solution might have destroyed them also, though.

I'm pretty sure the feds have a ban on selling used catalytic convertors.

Max, if you're asking if they rusted from the inside out, not sure.

All I know is there are holes everywhere, and they sure as hell *feel* stuffed up! No surprise, as I abused them heavily driving 20k on bad o2 sensors and shortly on bad knock sensors. I knew I'd be replacing the whole system, so I went for gold.

Yes, there is a bad on selling used cats. Total s***. Flow test it and put it back out there, hell tax the used cats and make some money.

OEM Cats cost a fortune. I am not surprised that nobody else is making the for our cars on a bolt on yet. I wouldn't spend the huge bank on OEM, if you can find aftermarkets that need to be welded in so be it, weld away cause you will not find them cheaper from Infiniti.

You cannot buy used ones. My 84 300ZX Cats lasted 26 years and 162k when I couldn't pass Cali smog and had to replace the one, which thankfully had an aftermarket "high flow" one for $300 bucks.
