Anyone have any luck finding aftermarket struts for a 1997-2001 Q?

I've been all over the internet and can't find any. Everyone sells the upper mount, but the only struts I've found are at the dealer and are roughly $500 a piece.

You've been all over the internet, and the whole time it was right under your nose (Nico). If you have the Tein spring set up then you need to look at this.

Will they work with stock springs? Or will I need to use a different (tein) spring as well? How much lower than stock will the car be with this set up?

When I searched the KYB site they only list mounts, no struts.

Thanks.Steve

Your springs will determine your height. You mind as well pick up some espelier/tein lowering springs and these KYB lowfer struts.

the tein - espelier will lower about 1.75 to 2 inches all around.

I've searched all the spring and strut sites I can find and no luck finding anything for the 97-01 Q. So without springs, I can't look at your struts.

You can use stock, Tein for the Y33 (might be a little weak), Espelir, or Eibach if you can find them.

I just got some good news from IOS. Their prices are half of what my local infiniti dealer wants. With regard to replacement springs, they are very tough to come by at any price, but Falkdesigns can obtain them.

not a good idea to run stock struts with lowering springs, your better off with struts that are optimal for lowering springs.

Why exactly?

Matching spring rate and sprung mass to shock damping rate is what is important.

!.75 - 2 inches all round? Should put your car right at the level where those parking lot bumpers will grab your lower front bumper and rip it ? ? ? According to what I see looking at the bumper elevation of my 2000 on 16's

Don't you guys have problems hanging up on parking lot bumpers, street curbs, and, any other elevated spots on streets and roadways rubbing the underside of your lowered cars?

Looking at my Q with stock wheels 16" I find the the fender openings or cutout match the symmetry of the wheel. Appears more elegant to me that the squashed look of a lowered car.

From what I see around here the style is to jack up the cars with big shiney wheels. Kinda looks like high clearance farm tractors. But with a classy paint job, big wheels do look cool. Especially on older cars.

what ?

the stock struts are made for STOCK SRPINGS, as in stock height. When you take a lowering spring with stock struts, the stock struts get compressed by how much the springs lower the car. So if your lowering springs lower by 2", your stock struts will be riding at 2" less than optimal.

the kyb lowfer struts are already shorter, thus optimal for lowering springs.

So? Are the KYB really shorter? I didn't compare, but they are shimmed upward (i.e. - less travel downward - by about .5". Like I said, loaded ride height, spring rate, sprung mass damping and rebound rate are all more important than where the static at rest height in the shock travel is.

I think you either want to keep your stock springs and just get the OEM replacement shocks and strut replacements OR you decide you want to go the full nine yards than I know where you can get the Tein springs (they are not weak, I have them on my Y33 for 2 years now and they are way better than stock). You should than jump on those KYB's if still available. I got the KYB SR Specials which are their top-of-the-line and cost like $800.

For sure 2" drops are not for people that drive on crappy roads and in major snow....I have an X-Terra now so if I know the roads will be bumpy I use the X. I also put on 19" M45 rims with spacers and it has NO squasked down look whatsoever. It just doesn't look like I'm borrowing my dads car anymore. More like an "M" version of the 1997 Q45t.

e-mail me at [email protected] if you want a line on the Tein springs, I can hook you up.

One other thing, you don't need to spend anymore time looking for aftermarket stuff, there just insn't any. Everything that we're using is Japenese Domestic Market (commenly referred to as JDM). The only thing we get are OEM options. My KYB SR Specials and Teins transformed my car from an okay handling car to a great handling car. I have hung with 540i, LS430, and older 911's. It handles like made especially with the 19" rims and WR rated big tires.
