96Q45 Smog Check

Ican't get my 96Q45 smogged because my check engine light doen't come on when I turn the key on. The light came on fine and threw codes; KS O2 sensors etc. I purchased and installed an Ultimate kit from Joe in Scottsdale. The car runs great; actually it always did, but I can't get it smogged. What do I do now. Please help! wtf I know if they would just stick that pipe up her rear, everything would be fine but they say they can't without the light.

I am going through the same thing. I got an extension from DVM that ends next month. I got help from an outstanding member of this forum. I am going to dismantle my dash and see if the light is blown. It is funny your having the same problem I'm having. Take the paper to DMV and they will give you an extension. I am going to try to fix the problem this Sunday. If I end up fixing it, I will post how it was done, but you may have more time then I do to check into it.

Thanks for the reply, I've learned so much from this site over the last couple of years but just never joined. I actually don't have a service manual but I was able to do my under plenum job; i'm a big boy now right? It's not in the OM it just says it will come on when you turn the key on and go to a dealer if it doesn't.

slybydesighn in Sunny San Diego. Is you Q the one that was waiting for you when you got home from the service? I know my light is not blown because it will come on when it throws a code.

I have never been in the service but my car has been in for service.....LOLOLOL

Well its good yours is not blown. I still have to look into my own and see whats causing this. The funny thing, is my own will not come on no matter what. Yours does come on yet it didn't pass . Thats the only reason I failed smog was because of that darn light. Well anyway, good look. I'll keep checking back to see how your situation turns out.

sly...Mmine won't come on so they won't do the test. I asked them if I unhooked something so it would throw a code and on would come the light, prooving the system worked; would they then run a smog check and they said no they couldn't. Lying to the system.

That sucks because the place I went ran everything first then went to check the lights and I have the print out I took to DMV to prove it past everything else with the exception of the Check Engine Light. I guess even though me and you have the same end result problem we may not have the same beginning problem. It does sound different then my own, I am hoping changing the light out will help me. You may have a loose connection in the dash and for what ever reason it will only come on when you hook up to run codes. Did they charge you anyway, these guys still charged me even though it didn't pass. Your guy seems more honest, I won't be going back to the guys I went to for a retest.

You took up their time, why wouldn't they charge you. Normally up to owner to make sure everything is 100% before they waste others time.
