alright guys, i'm not the most car saavy guy out there, but i'm always learning new things. right now i'm dealing with a no spark issue. my car had always had trouble starting on a cold morning, but with two or three tries cranking it, i was always able to get it started. after the car was nice and warmed up, say, afer driving somewhere, when i would go to start it back up, it started perfectly, the main point being, it only had trouble starting from a cold start.
then one super cold morning, i went to start it, and it seemed to be having the same trouble as usual. and it almost got running, but kinda bogged out right away, and it wouldn't start whatsoever after that. i explained all of this to hopefully give you an idea or hint as to what went wrong.
i checked to see if i was even getting fuel, and confirmed that i AM getting fuel. i put all new spark plugs in (NGK iridium's), which by the way, i left the gaps where they were, didn't change them or anything. should i have found the spec and gapped them accordingly? i was pretty sure the stock gap on the NGK's was fine, so installed the new plugs as is. i pulled two of the plugs back out and tested them for spark by putting them back on the spark plug wires and cranking the motor with the plug resting on the motor, and no spark whatsoever.
i then pulled the distributor (making sure to mark it accordingly to keep it in time when i put it back on) and everything seemed fine. no corrosion build up or anything unusual.
the last thing i want to do is have it towed to a shop, so i really want to figure it out. any ideas? ot troubleshooting tips?
any help is much appreciated,
thanks for looking,
-alex
