I have a '96 Q45 and I've been getting a few engine stalls and some hesitation at various speeds. I have seen check engine light come on with MAF and knock sensor codes on it. My question is - how can I tell for sure if the MAF is really going bad ? My mechanic told me there are other things that can throw a MAF sensor code such as vacuum or oxygen sensors...etc.. Anyone run into this issue before ? Thanks very much... Val

Give cleaning it a shot, and make sure to try the di-electric grease on the connector - if that takes care of it for good, consider yourself lucky. If it takes care of it for a little while - time for a new MAF.

Oh, and welcome to NICO!

Check the connector wires. they are quite finnicky. Wiggle em around and see what happens. If theres someone in the area with another q45 you could always swap theirs in for a check. i second the motion to clean.

I did have it removed and cleaned by still having problems. I just hate to spend all that money without being absolutely sure that will fix my problems. Thanks very much for your help guys !

Did you check your connector? this is a somewhat common problem it seems. this might be your case especially if the stalling/sputtering is intermittent. Call Joe form infinit of Scottsdale. He has sold many members the harness connector, who have had this same problem.

Also take a look at this. It was in Infiniti Online Mechanic. zerothread?id=135741
