Hi all,

Any idea how much I expect to spend to have the oil pan gasket replaced at some independent mechanics. My car is a 1996 Q45.

Got a quote from a local shop for $500.00. Is it fair or too much?

Thank you in advance!

Gary

One more Question! I want to buy a touch up paint for my car, it said Ivory Quartz on the original Sticker, is it the same Pearl white as the Nissan Color? Where can I but it?Thanks!

Probably about right, but be sure to replace the front motor mounts while you are there for almost no additonal labor. Replace the rear motor (transmission) mount and exhaust hangers also so driveline is back to near OEM as new alignment specifications.

Are you sure it's the gasket that's leaking? I would be concerned about something else further "north" leaking down and causing the appearance of the oil pan gasket being the issue. It is very rare to have a leaky oil pan gasket on the Q...

Thank you for your quick replys!

Well, my mechanic (not a Infiniti or Nissan mechanic) looked at the car and told me that both the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket are leaking, price to replace the valve cover gasket is $600.00 and for the iol pan gasket is $500.00.I may take it to some independent Infiniti garage to have them check that out.It is not leaking that much just like a few drops a day, if it costs that much to replace them, I am thinking of just leaving it like that until it gets worse. So, do you think it will be o.k. for a while? Thanks again!

I think it uses RTV (liquid gasket). You should be ok. Get one of those diapers they sell as the the carparts stores to catch the oil if you don't want it on your driveway. Put some fluorescent dye (uv dye) in to pinpoint the leak.

I would definately suspect the rocker covers before the oil pan. The rocker covers on your car are sealed with rubber gaskets... the oil pan is RTV. Either way, I would clean everything up with engine degreaser and then start looking for the leak. If oil is running down the block from the rocker cover leaks, it could easily look like a leaking oil pan...

Another common leak point is the oil pressure sending unit.

Not really. You should repair as soon as possible. It may be leaking around a plug also.
