96 Q45 Engine Code P0100 & P0325.

Hi all,

My 96 Q45's CEL is on, code showed P100 Mass Airflow circuit malfunction and P0325 Knock sensor I circuit malfunction.

Car hestitated and stalled after the engine warned up especially on a hot day, car has 140,000 miles.

Which one should I take care of first, knock sensor or the MAF?

Use premium gas and keep the engine tuned and you can live with one bad knock sensor. You can ohm the knock sensors to determine if they are truly kaput. You need to fix the MAF problem first.

Have you cleaned the MAF or checked and cleaned the connector? If not I'd do that first before putting out big bucks for a new MAF. Search here or go to Q45.org (Tech Help section) for step-by-step instructions for these basic maintenance items I've mentioned.

Used MAFs for a 96Q are tough to find. Captain Luigi just found one after a couple month search. If you determine you need one and can afford it, buy a new one (>$300), and then read the Captain's posts on repairing yours as a backup. Good luck.

96 are so down on low rpm power without vvt that a disabled knock sensor system [when the code shows] are pretty awful to drive.........all the bucking and surging is a warning by ecu to get it fixed.

The system doesn't function with one bad and one good.

I did clean the MAF and the connector but no improvement.

Best to replace the KS and harness. That means you should do all the hoses under the plenum too while you are there and clean the plenum to avoid repeat laobor. Consider including thermostat and radiator and heater hoses also. Also a good time to do valve cover gaskets as they are a little more easily accessed.
