What would cause the remote on key to fail.

Remote failed to unlock doors immediately following service to have fuel pump was replaced.Someone mentioned that the area around the pump had remote control wiring and that someone might have been dislodged accidently.Took car back in for them to inspect what when wrong and just got a call that my key remote is the failure cause. New remote at a cost of $200 performs properly.

3 very possible reasons

1. A employee dropped the keys/remote on the concrete and it broke

2. pure coincidence the remote just happened to "die" of old age while the dealer had it in their posession.

3. The remote was never bad at all, they just wanted to make a sale to cover their time to go back and fix/reconnect{antenna or remote control module} whatever they messed up under the rear deck while replacing your fuel pump

#2 above seems highly unlikely to me.

qship96,I think you are quite right on your opinion..box number 3.Pick the car up a few hours ago with the $220.00 remote.Dropped off the loaner car without anyone looking it over. (mistake).Just got a call from service rep that 'they' found a good size scratch on the front bumper and "what would 'you' like to do about it" "what's your deductible? "when can you come in(25 mile drive at 5pm) and 'take of' the $150.00 body work as we have to lend it out real soon".." How about just a credit card # over the phone".After explaining the car never left my sight except for the night in the garage and I have already contacted Infiniti customer service about the broken remote and I have only liability insurance (that's what Infiniti loaners only require (CA min)(wriiten in contract I signed) He didn't know what to say but ...."OH FORGET IT, I'll absorbed the cost ..He .slammed down phone. That's how they try to get another $150.00..Mysterious bad remote and a scratch that only cost $150.00.

The guy with the complaint of the getting only a short block on his oil consuming 05 has got it RIGHT.If I wanted issue with service I would buy a Phaeton and deal with the idiots at VW.Off to San Diego and Tuckers shop.

Sad. Especially after you have been such a loyal customer of the Infiniti dealer{s}. Every dealer has a local mobile paint work guy that visits dealer weekly to do paint touchups and ding removal in the back parking lot on all used and new vehicles that have minor damage like that.

For the dealer to even worry about each little bumper scrape between customers is nuts- most just let them accumulate until the loaner car reaches the maximum amount of allowed miles and is then touched up just prior to offering it for sale.

My guess is they would have pocketed your contribution and not repaired the scratch.

If the condition of my dealership's loaners is any indication, I think you'd have to roll it to have enough damage for them to notice!

Those were the days when the service person would drive the loaner up walk around the car with you checking all dents and marking them down on the contract and doing the same when you return. Now they do not want any of this inspection so you become complaisant and you don't think your driving a free loaner that has 24 thousand miles on it and will pay up for a scratch to avoid getting your insurance company involved. If I ever get stuck going to Infiniti again, the 20 mega pixel camera is coming out IN HIGH DEF with before and after shots as well as video/audio taping the discussion with the service rep at check in.

The fact that they didn't check it in means they accepted it de facto as undamaged. That is, they cannot prove that the damage didn't occur after you surrendered the car.

Tell them to go pound sand.
