'96 q-45 : ECU Code P0340

Vaguest code ever as I had it pulled @ AutoZone today.
Probable Cause
aa1 Open or short circuit connection
aa2 Poor Electrical Connection
aa3 Faulty Starter Motor
aa4 Faulty CMP Sensor
aa5 Engine Mechanical Condition

Now yesterday during a intense phone call while cranking my car I did the dreaded turn key on an already cranked car grind. 3-4 hours later I get the "check engine" light on. Today I'm getting 1-3 second delayed starts so I'm leaning towards the starter, any input would be appreciated.

On a strange note I just noticed the little engine icon itself is not lit up but a rectangle light above it is, mean anything.
