We use this 96 Pathfinder with 177000 miles to mainly pull a boat, not much besides that. I change the oil each year and had a new starter put on after the vehicle got caught in some floodwaters from Hurricane Irma...still runs, I think it may need a new tensioner pulley as it squeals for a few minutes until it warms up but haven't really looked into that yet. My main concern is I have had a continuous oil/water type of leak at the front passenger side of the vehicle. If you look under the truck in front of the right front tire there is a slight drip of slightly brownish watery fluid, if it hits the ground it spreads out a bit with an oily kind of sheen but relatively clear in color but a little dark as well. I believe the issue is the connection point at the transmission cooler is leaking (see pic)...or whatever the thing behind the radiator is called. Or the cooler itself could have a crack? Not sure. I have taken a few pics for reference. The oily water does not appear to be reddish in color like transmission fluid and I have checked the transmission, oil, power steering and brake fluid levels, all appear to be fine. Truck starts and runs but frankly do not want to ever drive it that far due to the leak and I really need a new exhaust as it is very rusted out. Thanks for any comments, I have small local auto shop that am reluctant to take it to without knowing more about my issue. Love the forum, I have browsed and read quite a bit but finally joined today.
Found the leak....here are a few pics, this is looking straight into the passenger side of the radiator/transmission cooler....just a teeny drip every few seconds....the piping appears to be where a rubber pipe joins metal.....decided to try a quick fix using JB Weld but access is limited only from the front -- reached in with a paint brush coating the pipe as best I could but you really cannot get the back side of it so not sure how well it will work...may try another coating tomorrow before starting it up.
Access is tight. Guessing a mechanic would have to remove the transmission cooler to access the area. Bummer but it has lasted this long without me doing much but would like to extend my driving range at some point.
