Hi guys,

I just found this forum! Looks like it will be a great resource in the future. I am having a problem with removing the lower intake manifold from my 96 nissan pathfinder. I was getting a knock sensor bad code, so I figured I would try to replace it.... Boy, what a pain in the arse this has turned out to be. The sensor is located underneath the intake manifold. Anyway, I have already removed all the upper intake junk. Also have removed the injectors and the all the lower intake manifold bolts and nuts. I have been following the haynes manual, and it says that the manifold should just lift off, but it isn't coming off at the front. All the gasket seals are loose, and I can somewhat rock the intake back and forth. It still feels like there is a bolt somewhere, though, that is not illustrated/mentioned in the manual. I can't really see down there or feel it, but it almost looks like there is a hidden bolt going through the timing cover and into the intake. I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem and could provide any info. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks- Matt

yeah.. all coolant hoses have been removed. I took the small ones from the back of the manifold off, closest to the fire wall, and then the big hose from the front... it just seems like there is an extra bolt that is not listed going through the back of the timing cover. I will investigate today.

Got it.... hidden bolt underneath timing cover (not mentioned in the repair manual). Had to remove a/c belt tensioner and bracket, but not the timing cover itself. Will post some pics tonight... Oh yeah. The knock sensor is cracked in half. I guess that is why it didn't work. Haha

I also need to replace the knock sensor on the Pathfinder 96. How long did it take you to change it? I googled the Internet and someone mentioned it will take about 4 hours. What gaskets do I need to buy for replacement when I install the manifold back? Do you have pictures to post yet?

Thanks,Chinh
