I have a 96 nissan hardbody and my instrument cluster gauge lights dont work. All other light work. Check engine, brake light, blinker arrows, low gas light, ect all works. Just not gauge lights to light up whole cluster at night. Speedometer, gas meter, rpm all cant see because cluster doesnt light up. I checked gauge bulbs they are all fine. I got a truck from a friend so i dont know if it was working before or if it stopped working when he did changes. Everything seems to be stock so i so think he messed with it. Where do i start or how do i diagnose to see what the problem is?

the dinner's almost never fail as they are more likly the lest used item in the truck (think about it maby 10 times in the truck life they get used)

i would say there is a good chance that someone has played around under the dash to have made the wire loose as its not the sort of thing that will fail if left alown

I jaf a similar problem installing a new deck. One of the switched power wires was blowing the tsillamp fuse which also took out my dash lights.

Usually to test the dimmer switxh+(rheostat)+ is to use a dmm and unplug the switchand hook up one lead to one terminal and one lead to the other. Now make sure your meter is set to ohms. Looks like an upside down horseshoe. You should have a smool and constant change in resistance from one side of the scale to the other. If it goes OL or open your switch is bad.
