1st gear has no problems but as soon as I drop it to 2nd and let go of the clutch it gives me a couple of bounces before it catches and I can accelerate. This only seems to happen in 2nd.

I figure my clutch is going and I am gonna have to replace it, BUT, maybe I am missing something.

Thanks NICO you guys are great.

Ok.... Now Im thinking its not the clutch....

Im getting serious bounce and shaking while the car is fully stopped and in neutral. I thought it was the clutch because it was only occuring during acceleration in 2nd gear but now its all the time. Fuel filter? Knock sensor?

Any thoughts anyone?

What do you mean "bounce"?

OK let me sum up whats going on to be clear.

The first sign of problems (I thought) I was having.

About 2 weeks ago the car started to give me a little slip in the clutch in ONLY 2nd gear. It would catch after a second or 3 after letting go of the pedal and then engage (so I would be reving with no acceleration for those 2 or 3 seconds.) All this would normally happen after 10 minutes of driving. This occured on and off for about a week and I just figured my clutch was going bad.

The second sign of problems I was having.

About one week ago the car started doing whats described above in ALL gears. And, I was getting a lot of engine shaking and sputtering while driving as well. At this point I am almost convinced the clutch is done for.

The Final (current) state of my car.

Now I am not convinced its my clutch. After warming up, the car is shaking and sputtering while in neutral. It barely wants to go anywhere, and sounds like it wants to stall out just sitting in neutral.

After reading thru these forums the past couple of days I think it may be a bad oxygen sensor or a clogged fuel filter or something along those lines. I am hoping someone else recognizes these symptoms and can narrow it down for me.

Sounds like you may either be getting to much fuel or you have a ignition component breaking down i.e. cap ,rotor, wires,or plugs.

To start off with, perform the usual tune-up basics:- new plugs- new air filter- new fuel filter

While you're replacing the plugs, examine each one to look for anything unusual on them. This might be a good time to do a compression test on each cylinder.

During idle, the O2 sensor is not monitored by the ECU; i.e. the system is running in 'open loop' mode, so replacing the O2 sensor will have no effect at idle.

Well, I checked the malfunction codes and it came up 67 which is CYL 2 Misfire. So I guess Im looking in the right direction. The plugs and wires looked good and the rotor looked in decent shape... think i should replace the whole set or should I check the fuel injection side of things?

If you have an extra plug laying around pull the wire off #2 plug and stick your extra plug in the wire. lay the plug so the threaded section is grounded on something. Then start the car see if the plug is firing. If that looks good run down to your local autozone or equvilant and pick up a noid light that will work in you injector connector[ there are different kinds] I typically use the gm one that looks close to the right terminal gap. plug it into you injector connector and see if it flashes with the car running. If this checks out ok you need to be suspicious of the injector or the cyl compression. Or even the plug you left in the cyl. that can be checked by swapping it with the plug that you used as a test.

Great you guys fricken RULE!

Watched the plug fire and noticed it fail after a few minutes. Replaced all 4 and the rotor for the hell of it. Everything seems to be running smoothly and I swear I feel a bit more power than before, although that could be my imagination.

Once again you guys are the best. thx Rogo and Tech for all your help.
