I have a '96 Nissan 200sx GA16DE. I just had a tune up about 6 months ago. But recently when I turn on the A/C my car shuts down. This happens when I am idling at a light or stopped. Does anyone know what could be the problem.

Have you tried adjusting the idle? What does it idle at with no A/C running?

It idles normally around 600-800 rpms.

Very possible the pulley/clucth for the compressor is shot and now when the AC tries to engage the "locked up" pulley bogs the motor and stalls it. i had the same problem with my 96 sentra and have heard from nissan dealerships that the car had low oil pressure so u might want to check that out
