I have removed the EGR and it seems to operate fine. It starts rough in the morning but seems fine after running for a short time (30 seconds to 1 minute). If I clear the code it does not seems to come back as long as the engine is not completely cooled. I have checked for vacuum leaks by spaying the lines. I can not find any leaks and get no other codes. Before I go through taking the thing apart again, can anyone advise me on further trouble shooting or possible fixes? Thank you

Clear the path from the exhaust manifold through the EGR valve into the intake plenum. Make sure the inlet tube from the exhaust manifold is clear and check the outlet port (where it bolts on) on the intake manifold. Both can get plugged with carbon deposits and if there's restricted flow the CEL comes on. If you have a CA emissions engine make sure the temp probe where the EGR bolts to the intake is cleaned of deposits also.

Thank you for your help. I ran a few checks and EGR seems to function correctly. It looks like I am going to have to clean the system. Is they any advice you could give on cleaning it? I took it all apart and the tube from the EGR to the intake was plugged up the tube to the EGR seemed clear. I cleared the code and as of yet, it has not reset. Loads of smoke when i started the car after cleaning it so maybe that did the trick. Thanks for the advise
