Alot of people want to turbo their car, but face it, for this car there are very few kits available and everything would be a pain to customize on your own. The kits that are available are very very expensive, quite overpriced if you tell me. But thats because the lack of demand I should expect. If we could get a group of people to order, the price would drop and signifigantly because these kits would no longer have to be specially made for 1 specific car. Simple economics about supply and demand. I don't know specific prices but I was specificially looking at the PFI kit on http://www.turbo-kits.com/maxima_turbo_kits.html credit given to maxhopper for bringing it to my attention. If the price was lower, im sure more people would be interested!

I just would like to know if would anyone be serious to do something like this? A head count hopefully. Regardless what anyone does, I'll be ordering my kit sometime during the spring/summer time but if we could all save a bit of money, why not?

So how many people are intereted?

i've been looking and thinking about doing this for quite awhile now. however 6k is pretty steep, and my car is an automatic. the pfi kit says manual transmission only, so....if you could get a group deal on a kit thats compatable with BOTH transmission's then im definately in. if not, ill prolly be ordering the tsi kit. its 1/2 the price and can be used with both trannys.

The inherent problem with this is getting enough people willing to put down $5k+.

The reason the kits are made for the 5speeds is that the automatic can't handle the added power. The way the setup is configured, the turbocharger sits above the transmission. Since the 5speed is considerably smaller than the automatic, this also would require serious modification to the exhaust and intercooler piping on any kit that would be used on an automatic.

Why not contact PFI directly? http://www.pfispeed.com/flash/index.php

I think whats even more interesting is what I found. I don't know if its reliable but I found a vortech supercharger kit for 96 i30/maxima direct bolt-on. If anything for these prices I would go with this. Any comments on this?

isnt vortech the same company that was sold by stillen a few years ago? or was the stillen kit just called "vortech?" if it was the same kit and it is in fact a "bolt-on" job, then im definately in!! thats only 1/2 price of any other turbo kit out there plus, isnt the supercharger the "lesser of two evils" when it comes to engine life/problems?

That is interesting, as I haven't seen anyone else who made the mounting plate for the SC.

Yes the Stillen kit did use a Vortech unit.

My questions would be about an intercooler and piping; any changes necessary in the fuel delivery (injectors or pump); and the reprogrammed ECU to handle the timing and fuel maps.

Ok, I sent them an email asking all your questions. We'll see when I get a reply. If true I'll be ordering my kit next month.

Upgraded fuel pump would be needed. Not sure about injectors since Hal was able to run >500hp on stock injectors. Technosquare ECU should cover the ECU (I believe they make one for the 4th gen).

Emanage would do more than fine. The Emanage is a recommended upgrade for the T/C or S/C.

ok, the kit on andys auto sport is the stillen kit, which stillen no longer makes. i emailed them and never heard back from them.

turbokits.com raised the price on the pfispeed kit to discourage people from buying them. pfi has terrible customer service and they have a reputation for taking forever getting people there kits. check out maxima.org.

if you are looking to turbo your maxima you are most likely going to have to make up your own kit.

if you are looking to supercharge your maxima then i suggest you go to maxima.org and look up matty's v1 starter kit. this kit will give you a lot of the major components to make your own supercherger kit, except the actual supercharger and piping.

if you are wondering, they never sent you a reply because they probably have poor customer service. They did send me a reply 1 week later telling me this is only the supercharger, not the kit! A bunch of BS if you ask me because of the false advertisement. However this could prove useful to get the supercharger from there if I have the rest of the parts like you said my friend

I have done alot of research on the pfi kit. It seems to be the best and most complete kit for the maxima. The other kit on turbo kit is just garbage. I have emailed turbokits.com and pfi. PFI seemed to answer all of my questions but I still don't feel right giving them 4k. That is what they told me the kit would cost. There is another forum's member that was the test car I believe and he sells kits from pfi. He charges $4100 which seems fair. I was going to go thru with it but I am looking to buy a supercharged maxima.
