My '96 I30 has 155,000 miles on it and the cv joints are starting to make a small clicking noise when I make hard turns in either direction...the question is: do I replace both inner/outer joints on each wheel? And where would I get the best price on the parts? The cv boots are not torn or damaged....what is the best way to go on this? Thanks,Doug in Texas

Are you sure it's the CVs? With it happening on turns, I would look at the strut bearings on the top of the shock. It is a common problem.

I just "feel" it is the cv joints as it is a consistent sound of "clicking" in either direction when I turn...I can't imagine the struts making this noise as they would tend to move in a up/down motion...surely other owners have had the cv joints go out and is 155,000 miles about their lifespan? I'll listen to any idea,though.....help!

Have a 95 and had to have new CV joints around 135K butmy boots were torn.

How does the car run when you kick it in on the highway? Areyou feeling "surges" of speed? What about on the street? Doesit feel like it's slipping. If not, it's probably just noise.

Go to Hayes/Chilton and look at these things. Bunch of balls ina cage. Maybe one got out and will jump back in-who knows?I bet it is low on grease inside the boot.

I HAVE NEVER DONE IT, but what if you put a small hole in the bootand patched it with a tire patch. I dont know if it would hold? Youcould load up the boot with grease and see if it would stop the noise.

....do you live near a lake or river....? Nutria for lunch and supper, too! Hah! My local mechanic just diagnosed the bad cv joints..it does have 155,000 miles....but it runs like a scalded *** ape on the highway..my wife drives it to her school-she's a principal...and wants to keep it til the wheels fall off....and they might soon if I don't replace the cv joints! We have had 3 Infinitis so far....the "99 Q is our favorite.....

I hate CV joints cause you cant use Nutria grease onem

I know it's the joints..I've been lucky so far..usually they last 100-125K or so....no matter which direction I turn-fairly sharp to right or left-they snap and pop...a steady "clicling" coincidental with the turn raduis and speed...I have the windows down and listen....I have ordered the replacement parts from Joe in Scottsdale -much cheaper than local parts house-will let you know in a week or so if they solved the problem...but I feel I need some new ones anyway....preventive medecine!
