ok car shut off on me while at a stop light and i had one hell of a time pulling into the gas station next to me.

ever since i bought the car it has a had a hessitation to start. no cranking problem and i got an optima battery for it, but it just takes about 20 seconds before it actually fires up. mostly when first being driven for the day.

anyways im going to go ahead and replace the fuel pump.

does anyone know where i can find a diagram of the system and maybe any suggestions as to what it might be?

If you remove the back seat there is a port that will allow you to remove it. Make sure it is not you MAF sensor that will cause a hessitation and no start.

The guy at the Mazda dealership is full of poo. The fuel pump is accessed through a panel below the rear seat. On page EC-341, you will find a diagram that says "under the rear seat." http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/1996/EC.pdf

Info on testing the MAF can be found starting on page EC-108 of the same section.

Is your check engine light (CEL) on? Any codes to check?
