96 Maxima Emmission Inspection needed, but Check Engine light on (CODE #P0400)

Need your help! My 96 maxima's emmisions inspection and registration ends this month and need it fixed to pass inspection. I went to local Checkers parts store to get diaognos of check engine light. Code was P0400, I understand it is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation flow" AKA...EGR valve system. Their is however, couple of parts to this, vacuum leak, flap, etc... Car runs fine, wiith no distinction of a vacuum leak. How do I pin point the exact area and fix it. Or can I bypass this for the inspection. The EGR unit costs well over $150.00

You can't tell if there is a problem or not

You need a code reader to clear the code beforegoing to inspection
